KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Gloria Flaherty presided over her first meeting as the new president of the Rotary Club of Kelseyville Sunrise on Friday, July 12.    

She announced her Rotary goal for the coming year is to become more visible and active in the Kelseyville and Lake County communities.  

Her theme for the year is “Engage Rotary, Change Lives.”

Flaherty is the executive director of the Lake Family Resource Center.

Flaherty will be assisted by her three fellow officers, Pamela Shine-Duncan, vice president; Rita Abbey, secretary; and Peter Dodson, treasurer.  

The Kelseyville Rotary meets every Friday at 7 a.m. at the Saw Shop Gallery and Bistro, 3825 Main St., Kelseyville.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Native Daughters of the Golden West recently presented a donation check to Ginny Craven, founder of Operation Tango Mike.

Operation Tango Mike sends care packages to troops overseas.

Native Daughters of the Golden West makes donations to honor our veterans on all the major holidays. They also make donations in memory of a members.

The Order of the Native Daughters of the Golden West is a fraternal and patriotic organization founded on the principles of love of country, devotion to the flag, veneration of the pioneers and faith in the existence of God.

Lupoyoma Parlor was established  July 22, 1972. They are celebrating their 41st year in Lake County.

Individuals 16 years of age and older who were born in California are welcome.

They meet the third Monday of every month in Lakeport.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – It’s time for the 2013 Ely Quick Draw.

This is your chance to win a fabulous wood picnic table and bench set for your outdoor entertaining needs.

Beyond-sturdy 2-inch thick solid wood was used so it will last a very long time.

The set was made right here in Lake County by the Konocti Conservation Camp CC#27. Known for their fire suppression support and community service projects, the camp has donated this great piece for a raffle to raise funds for a set of tables that will greatly enhance Ely’s event space for future festivities.

The 2013 Quick Draw ticket sales started July 6th. The drawing date will be announced at a future time. So buy early and buy often.

Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Purchase tickets from docents during museum hours, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday or from any of our volunteers anywhere/anytime you may run into them. Watch for us at many public events.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Ladies of the Lake Quilt Guild (LLQG) invites entries for its 12th annual Falling Leaves Quilt Show.

The deadline to submit entry forms is Aug. 10.

The LLQG is inviting entries now to give quilters time to finish quilts for the show which will be held Oct. 5-6 at the Lake County Fairgrounds.

Quilters may choose to have their quilts judged or to enter quilts without judging. Many quilters find it beneficial to have their quilts judged, learning much from an impartial evaluation.

The judges will award ribbons in several areas.

Show organizers expect to display about 200 quilts in this show. Among the quilt show’s attractions will be featured quilter Cara Gulati, vendors, a silent auction, and the Country Store boutique.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The city of Lakeport is advising motorists that road construction will take place beginning later this week on Hartley Road between 20th Street and the city limits west of the Lakeport Unified School District campus.

Construction will be under way from Friday, July 19, through Friday, Aug. 16.

The construction will begin at 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily and heavy delays are expected.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes of travel during this time.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Get fired up for Kelseyville Business Association’s second street dance with the band “Twice As Good” at the Kickin’ in the Country street dance on Thursday, July 18, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Main Street in Kelseyville.

Rich and Paul Steward, father and son blues duo, will perform high energy blues, soul and rock ‘n’ roll with guitars, harmonica and soulful vocals.  

They are members of the Elem Pomo from Clearlake Oaks, and grew up around music.  

Since 2003, they have been all over the USA, released six albums, received a West Coast Blues Award and a Native American Music Award and shared the stage with many legends and famous artists.

The KBA wants to thank its sponsors, Konocti Vista Casino and Roger Wheeler Landscaping both KBA members.

Konocti Vista Casino, located on Soda Bay Road going to Lakeport, is a casino with hotel, marina, RV Parking, restaurant, full bar, coffee bistro, banquet facilities, convenience store and smoke shop.  

Roger Wheeler Landscaping provides full range of landscaping services which includes residential and commercial maintenance, sprinkler repair, aeration, landscape design and installation, parking lot sweeping and much more.

The KBA will be serving ice cold beer and wine highlighting Moore Family Winery. Come by the KBA booth and enjoy the wine selection. There will be a raffle with prizes.  

Kelseyville Food Pantry will be collecting nonperishable food donations, and KBA will give a free raffle ticket per person for any food donations.

Please no skateboarding or bike riding in the closed part of Main Street and sidewalks. This is a safety issue and everyone’s cooperation is appreciated.

Bring chairs and mingle with family and friends or make new ones. Get out and kick up your heals, dance the night away and enjoy the summer evening.
