LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Time Bank of Thrive Lake County will hold a “Time Bank Orientation Brunch” on Saturday, March 9.

The brunch will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kelseyville Methodist/Unitarian Universalist Church on 3810 Main St. in Kelseyville, across the street from the Saw Shop.

This fun and education event is open to members and potential members of the time bank.

The agenda includes an introduction to the concept of time banking, a time for questions and answers, and an activity designed to get participants started in time banking.

All ages are welcome. Admission is free, and you can earn hours from the time bank from this event in the following ways: One hour will be provided for anybody who brings a breakfast or brunch food item to share with eight other people; one hour will be provided for anybody who brings a friend to the event; one hour will be provided to anyone who stays for the entire event and completes the orientation.

The Time Bank of Thrive Lake County helps Lake County residents get necessary services through allowing the exchange of time instead of cash.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Shannon Michele of Cache Creek Catering and Lake County Wine Studio are presenting a monthly food and wine series featuring gourmet appetizers paired with select Lake County wines.

Locally produced foods are proudly featured as key ingredients in recipes created by Cache Creek Catering.

The series is held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month. The per person cost is $25 and $20 for wine studio club members. Reservations are required.

March 8 will feature Lavender Blue wines from award-winning winemaker, Stephen Dilley.

The opening course with pair 2010 Viognier with a south Asian chicken salad topped with sweet chili dressing, followed by Hoison glazed pork meatballs over glass noodles served with new wine release Charming.  

Charming is a non-vintage red blend of Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Sangiovese.

The final course will be a white chocolate, almond and dried apricot bark paired with new release 2009 Liquido D’Oro, a white port-style wine made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

February’s event featured Noggle Vineyard and Winery wines beginning with a salad of warmed kale, bacon and green beans in a pomegranate vinaigrette paired with 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon followed by the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon paired with rosemary and chocolate beef tips.

The final pairing of a dark chocolate torte topped with chocolate mousse paired with Eden Crest port style Cabernet Sauvignon completed the three-course event.

April 12 will be the next date to follow for the Local Cuisine Scene event.

LUCERNE, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Club will hold its regular meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday,  March 9, in the Rose Room of the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center.

District Attorney Don Anderson will speak on the current issues in Lake County and at the District Attorney’s Office.  

Refreshments will be served.

Lake County Democratic Club meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m. in the Rose Room of the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center.

The public is always welcome and membership is open to all registered Democrats.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Terrace PTO is hosting its annual taco feed event this Tuesday, March 5.

The event will be held in the Terrace Gym, located at 250 Lange St., Lakeport.

The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served until 7:30 p.m.

In addition to a great dinner there will be a bake sale sponsored by the sixth graders to raise money for their science camp field trip, and a book faire sponsored by the library.  

The fourth graders will perform some of the songs they have been learning in music.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Historic Courthouse Museum in Lakeport will host the second in a series of historic readings on Saturday, March 16.

“The Diary of Lucas Willey” will be the subject of the reading, which will take place beginning at 2 p.m. in the upstairs courtroom.

Lucas Willey served as the justice of the peace in Lower Lake and in this segment he writes about the dismantling of the Cache Creek dam by 300 vigilantes in 1868.  

Mike Svehla will be the reader this month and the series continues on April 20, and May 18.  

There is no admission charge and refreshments will be served.  

The museum is located at 255 N. Main St.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The city of Clearlake reported that the March meeting of the Clearlake Planning Commission has been canceled.

The meeting had been set for Tuesday, March 5.
