A welcome and recruitment event for current, former and new Red Cross volunteers is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lakeport Senior Center, 527 Konocti Ave.
All are welcome to attend.
The event will include information about classes and volunteer opportunities, as well as snacks. It will feature class sign-ups for CPR and first aid, volunteer sign-ups for disaster sheltering and emergency response vehicle training, and volunteer sign-ups for Service to the Armed Forces.
The primary Red Cross activities in Lake County now include disaster response, CPR classes and Service to the Armed Forces. Red Cross continues to maintain an office at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., Lakeport.
The new arrangement allows the Red Cross to provide better support to the community in Lake County. Yolo County Red Cross, which was formerly combined with Lake County, is now part of the Sacramento-Sierra Chapter.
Interested individuals can call for more information about the volunteer event or the Red Cross in general: Pam Plank, disaster chair, Lake County Red Cross, 707-272-3665, or call the Red Cross office at the Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., Lakeport, 707-263-8451.
American Red Cross, Sonoma & Mendocino Counties (which includes Lake County) is a neutral, humanitarian organization that provides relief to victims of disasters, and prepares people to prevent and respond to emergencies.
Like all Red Cross chapters, the local chapter is self-sustaining and is funded by local contributions. All assistance to disaster victims and to members of the armed forces provided by the Chapter is free and made possible by voluntary donations of time and money by the people of Sonoma and Mendocino Counties.
Donations can be made at www.arcsm.org, www.redcross.org, via mail to American Red Cross, 5297 Aero Drive, Santa Rosa, CA 95403, or by phone at 707-577-7627 (707-463-0112 Mendocino local call).

The theme for this year’s event is “Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler,” or “Let the Good Times Roll,” and they definitely will with live music from Gator Beat, a groovin’ Sonoma County based Zydeco band.
Cajun/Creole appetizers created by Chic Le Chef in Hidden Valley Lake, a complimentary cup of local micro-brewed ale, dancing, and both silent and live auctions will guarantee an amazing evening at the Moore Family Winery at 11990 Bottle Rock Road in Cobb.
LCICS Charter Council secretary Valerie Moberg said, “As a small, public school LCICS very much depends on the support of the community to continue to exist as a free educational option for Lake County families. This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and while educating the children of our community is a serious business, we all need to have more fun in our lives. With Gator Beat’s live performance, this year’s Live & Give is sure to be our most exciting event yet!”
Tickets can be purchased for $30 per person at the door on the evening of the event, and at Funtopia Toys at 21208 Calistoga Road in Middletown, at the LCICS Office at 15850 Armstrong St., by calling 707-963-3063 or by emailing livegive@lcics.org.
You must be at least 21 years old to attend.
LCICS is a free, kindergarten through sixth grade public school that is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World school and Western Association of Schools and Colleges-accredited, providing students with an inquiry/project based, enriched education in a small school community and nurturing environment.
At LCICS, students are taught to become competent and self-motivated individuals with a commitment to life-long learning, enabling them to reach their full potentials as literate, knowledgeable, principled and responsible global citizens of the 21st century.
Often mistaken for private schools, all charter schools are free and government-funded.
For more information, or to donate items or gift certificates to the live or silent auctions, email livegive@lcics.org, call 707-987-3063 or go online to www.lcics.org.
