Lakeport Unified School District plans ‘Reach Higher Day’ event

LAKEPORT, Calif. — Community members are being invited to share their stories for the Lakeport Unified School District’s “Reach Higher Day” event this month.

Lakeport Unified School District has hosted a Reach Higher Day event for many years, originally called Career and College Day and is an event focusing on the preparedness of post secondary, college and career readiness and California college and career educational standards.

This year’s main event is scheduled for March 30, however, AVID, career and college readiness and awareness activities are scheduled to occur the week of March 28 to April 1.

The team is excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our students yet again this school year.

As in previous years, they invite community members and local business owners to share information about their chosen career pathway, explaining the steps that led them to this career choice along with educational experiences that supported their successful career and/or business ownership.

This opportunity is opened to all fields and professions, military branches and Clear Lake High School alumni.

Organizers have hosted this event in a variety of modes due to COVID-19 restrictions and were able to offer a virtual event last March.

For this year’s event, each school site has slightly different preparations, however, the focus remains for the district to provide this opportunity to all grade levels.

Students will be provided opportunities with prerecorded, live virtual, and live in-person presentations by a variety of community members.

It is the district’s intention and passion to inspire young people to “reach higher” than they’ve ever believed possible.

It is never too early to expose children to college and career opportunities. You never know what might interest and inspire their drive to stay motivated in their learning and success.

The team working to make this event a success for students includes Lakeport Unified School District counseling staff, Jodie Smart-Maize and Juan Simental from Clear Lake High School, Michele Himenes from Terrace Middle School, Krystal Patrick from Lakeport Elementary School, district counselor Michael Keys, along with district behavior specialist Rojon Brown, district AVID instructional coach Elisa Prather and Nicole Wells, the director of special education and health services.

Should any business owner or community partner wish to be involved with this event, please contact Nicole Wells at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
