KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The first meeting of the Lake County Rocket Club will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
The meeting will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Taylor Observatory, 5725 Oak Hills Lane in Kelseyville.
This is the third year that this free club welcomes any fourth through eighth grader in Lake County. Parents also are encouraged to attend.
At the weekly meetings, club members learn about the physics and aerodynamics of flight. They build rockets from kits and then launch them.
Last year, some advanced students built rockets they designed themselves. In the spring the Rocket Club was invited to tour Lampson Field, a field trip all members enjoyed.
Interested parents or students wanting to join the club should call Bill Bordisso at 707-279-0923 for more information.
The Lake County Rocket Club is jointly sponsored by the Lake County Office of Education and the Children’s Museum of Art and Science.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – They did it again – the advanced students in the Yuba College Culinary Program created a delicious feast for those who attended the third annual fundraiser dinner for the Children’s Museum of Art and Science on Saturday, Sept. 6.
The Aromas Café on the college campus was packed.
Chef Robert Cabreros’ crew turned local produce, donated by Adamson Ranch in Lower Lake, into a sumptuous meal enjoyed by all. Students used olive oil donated by Chacewater of Kelseyville for extra added flavor for their dishes.
Everyone was tapping their toes to the unique and melodious tones of InVoice, a local band headed by Bill Bordisso. Doug Harris, Libby Larson and Keith Larson rounded out the group.
Bordisso, who also is the leader of the Lake County Rocket Club, took a minute to explain about this club.
The club is free to any fourth through eighth grader in the county and meets weekly at Taylor Observatory in Kelseyville. CMAS and the Lake County Office of Education support this program.
Sarah Fred, who has been volunteering at CMAS events since she was in high school, sold raffle tickets and ran the raffle. A certificate from Case Excavating, a quilt made by Lela Prather and a collection of science kits donated by the Grocery Outlet were among the most sought-after raffle prizes.
Attendees also saw a video of Mr. Lee’s fifth grade class at Pomo Elementary use the Lego robot kits provided by CMAS for a two-hour class workshop last spring.
CMAS member Billy Gear was on hand with a robot kit and laptop and encouraged people to try their hand at making a robot.
CMAS wishes to thank all who worked so hard to make this event a success. Plans already are under way for next year’s dinner, traditionally held the first Saturday after Labor Day.
CMAS is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization whose mission is to provide free art and science activities and events for the youth of Lake County.
