It's a community outreach event, says First Lutheran Pastor Chris DelCol. "The hope is that we can work together on outreach in Lake County because it's the right thing to do and the Lutheran Church as a body can do it."
Food, music, games and fellowship will be offered at the picnic. "The fellowship is what I'm most looking forward to," DelCol said.
Between fire evacuations and relief efforts, DelCol has overseen the installation of a new roof and a fresh paint job on the church. The congregation is now preparing to complete a landscaping job to further spruce the church up in what the church calls the "Love thy neighbor landscaping project.”
"The reason it's happening is because we're trying to show the community we're committed to the community,'' he said. "We believe enough in the community to invest in the community and we're hoping that catches on, that other people will do the same with their properties".
The picnic is an opportunity for community members to meet, share fellowship and thoughts about community renewal. It is being put together by First Lutheran, Galilee and St. John's.
While Lake County residents from around the county are invited to come and enjoy fellowship, food, music and games, "I am praying that many from Galilee and St. John's attend,” DelCol said.
Among other things DelCol is interested in hearing from the community to learn how the church can participate with the community to make it better.
First Lutheran, Galilea and St. John's welcome all to participate Saturday. “Please join us,” DelCol said.
First Lutheran Church is located at 3863 Country Club Drive in Lucerne. For more information please call the church at 707-274-5572.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Lakeport Community Seventh-day Adventist Church is excited to announce that beginning Aug. 17 the church will have a new pastor.
Robert Henry was born and raised in sunny Southern California and is married to Natasha Henry. Together they have a 3-month-old daughter named Gianna.
Growing up he had a love for sports, especially American football. However, at some point, he came to a crossroad when he was enjoying playing sports but knew there was something more he wanted to do with his life.
That’s when he began to grow in his relationship with God and shortly after that, he sensed the calling to serve in a career of ministry to others.
Since that realization he has not looked back. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies, and served aboard as a missionary in Indonesia for a year.
He is currently serving as a chaplain in the United States Air Force Reserve.
His vision for the Lakeport Community and Upper Lake SDA churches is for them to be an integral part of Lake County by participating in community events, serving the community at large and sharing God’s love with all, in word and through action.
Please come and welcome him to the community at the worship service at 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the church, 1111 Park Way, at the Park Way/Hill Road exit of Highway 29.
