Local Government

For the first time in many years, the voters of District 1 have the opportunity to elect a new person to represent us on the Lake County Board of Supervisors. I support Monica Rosenthal because she offers the energetic, dedicated leadership that our fire-damaged communities need from our county supervisor.

After the Clayton fire, Monica was there to provide constant volunteer help for the people of Lower Lake. As our supervisor, we can count on her to expedite the county's permit process so that residents can begin rebuilding their homes without unfair delays or excessive costs.

Monica is truly committed to representing all of the people of District 1. She is a farmer with hands-on experience in working the soil and supporting agriculture. She's been actively involved with community organizations throughout south Lake County – not just those in her hometown.

Most importantly, Monica will bring high standards of integrity and independence to the Board of Supervisors. Her allegiance is to the people of District 1 – not to any special interest group. She's a county supervisor we can all be proud to support!

A recent letter writer correctly pointed out that the revenue generated from the city of Lakeport’s Measure Z will go directly into the general fund.

Measure Z does provide a safeguard to insure this one-percent sales tax will be spent on police, roads and parks as is the intent of the measure.

Measure Z establishes a five-member independent citizens’ advisory committee. This committee will meet quarterly to receive information on the amount of revenue generated, make recommendation to the Lakeport City Council on how that revenue should be spent and to review all expenditures of that revenue.

Boy what an election year!

It's my personal opinion that it's just as important here in Clearlake to make sure we elect officials that will work hard for the people in our city.

This is why I am giving my support to Joey Luiz for Clearlake City Council.

I first became familiar with Joey when my wife Denise was elected to the council in 2012. I was able to watch them sometimes struggle to get their differing opinions on issues out but in the end always hugging and moving on even if they did not agree.

Then I myself was able to serve with him on the Clearlake Chamber of Commerce Board, a completely different capacity which he was also very effective at.

My biggest admiration of Joey was his want to fight for the people of our community.  The overall love he has for Clearlake stands out.

Joey had the ability to be himself and fight for what is right while he sat on the council. He is a man that can look at all sides then come to a conclusion of what he feels is best for all.

During our recent fire events Joey fought hard and was successful against businesses that price gouged to try to profit off our disaster.

The growth Joey has had over just the four years I have known him has been enormous in the avenues of public service – avenues he can bring right here to Clearlake.

There was a time recently where I was having trouble with some red tape issues at my business. It was going to affect the public safety of our community/county if I didn’t get the matter resolved. I felt I was not being heard at the time let alone being helped in the matter.

Joey took time and sat right at my table to make calls and find the right people that already “work for us the people.” Then with everyone’s help together it was resolved fast and easy.

My point with telling that story? Joey knew the proper channels to get help for the community to stay safe.

Now with Joey working at the State Board of Equalization he has only broadened his contacts that can help us all in the future.

These are just a few reasons why I support Joey Luiz for Clearlake City Council.

The race for District 4 supervisor comes down to commitment, experience, connections and being an effective champion for the people of Lake County. On all aspects, Tina Scott is the superior choice.

The word “full-time” seems to bandied about lately by her opponent and his surrogates as if the fact that Tina is a mother will get in the way of her dedicating herself completely to her role as a supervisor. It sounds pretty sexist to me and so off base if you know anything about Tina. She is a human dynamo, supremely disciplined and organized, and has been involved tirelessly for the past 16 years in all of the most important aspects of this County and its future.

Early on in this election, I ran into someone who is very involved in youth sports in the county, he told me he was voting for Tina “because there’s never a youth event I go to that the Scott family isn’t there supporting.”

Whether it’s working with our children and their futures on the School Board, or with those who are putting new energy into the Middle Creek Project, or with all parties who are bringing a critical new revenue stream to the county by way of a legal and safe marijuana industry or supporting the growth of our wine industry and local businesses, Tina is there.

She is endorsed by well-respected leaders, from around the County, and across the political spectrum – like Dr. Harry Lyons, Peter and Kathy Windrem, Bill Brunetti, Anita McKee, Bob Bridges, Ted Mandrones, Richard Ford, Supervisors Anthony Farrington and Jim Steele, and many others.

Tina has attended almost all of the Board of Supervisors meetings for the past 18 months. She makes it a point to be educated on all the important issues the Lake County Board of Supervisors oversees, by searching out knowledgeable experts, attending meetings, and talking directly to the people of the County.

If you are worried about an experience gap, listen to Tina and her opponent being interviewed recently on KXBX, available on YouTube. It’s impossible to tell who is the novice.

As for being a champion for the people of Lake County, there are very few with more insight into the everyday heartbreaking struggles of many in Lake County.

As foster parents, Tina and her husband, saw the worst that can happen to children and opened up their hearts and their home to provide a safe and loving sanctuary. She sees the serious impact homelessness has on many Lake County students.

When she visits the senior center and supports the Meals on Wheels program, she understands that preserving seniors’ dignity is paramount.

There is all of her amazing work over the past 16 years with vulnerable communities, not a hint of scandal, just smart new ideas to fix old issues that are long overdue for resolution, and a pledge to donate 20 percent of her gross income to nonprofits in District 4 that most effectively support youth and seniors.

Tina Scott is someone we can truly hold up and be proud of as our elected leader in Lake County.

Don’t hesitate. Vote for Tina Scott on Nov. 8 and then get ready to join Team Tina as we work together to make Lake County an even better place to live, work and visit.

In the interests of disclosure, I am proud to be a volunteer for Tina’s campaign.
