An extensive offering of ultra-premium Lake County wines – everything from pear champagne to award-winning Syrah and Port – will be masterfully paired with luscious chocolates and other tasty food bites by Sommelier Stephanie Green, owner of Focused on Wine in Kelseyville.

Green will lead workshops on wine sensory and pairing food with wines and a variety of other classes and demonstrations will be held, such as olive oil sensory, chocolate demonstrations, and biodynamic vineyards.

This year’s event also will feature a silent auction with wine, dining, travel, and art packages, as wells as an array of olive oils and appetizers to stimulate the palate.

Event-goers will stroll through the venue tasting wines from more than 30 area wineries, nibble on delicious chocolates, and can purchase a “wine country” lunch.

Wines from the event also will be available for sale. Auto enthusiasts and admirers will have an opportunity to see vintage cars and trucks up close throughout the event, weather permitting.

Proceeds from the Wine & Chocolate Festival benefit the programs and services of the Lake Family Resource Center.

A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held at Burns Valley Elementary School, 3620 Pine Ave. in Clearlake, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1.

A live auction will begin at 6 p.m.

The cost is $8 per person.

Presale tickets are available at Burns Valley Elementary and Marlene Wentz, EA & Associates, located at 15332 Lakeshore Drive, Clearlake.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon.

The relay is Harte's senior project.

She said it's meant to raise money for the American Cancer Society based on doing laps and donations.

The event also is to promote awareness of cancer prevention and a healthier lifestyle.

There will be booths and activities to educate and promote healthy living along with Jazzercise, live music and free snacks and drinks. Prizes can be won from participating in activities.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Several Lake County residents will attend two events in Sacramento to mark the second anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United decision.

The court ruled that corporations are people and that money equals speech, so campaign finance cannot be regulated.

On Friday, www.MoveToAmend.org is sponsoring Occupy The Courts Day at more than 130 locations around the country, including the Supreme Court in Washington, DC, to protest the decision and advocate a constitutional amendment that repeals it.

Several Lake County residents will go to the Federal Court in Sacramento, starting with a march from Caesar Chavez Park at 10:30 a.m.

On Saturday rallies at the State Capitol, sponsored by a consortium of organizations, will begin at 11:30 a.m. and end at 3 p.m.

The rallies are intended to promote a proposed 28^th Amendment, introduced in the Senate, that would decree that rights protected by the U.S. Constitution are for natural persons only not artificial entities like corporations.

Highway 175

– PG&E of Eureka has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility work from the junction of Routes 29/175 near Kelseyville to 1.5 miles west of Socrates Mine Road beginning Friday, Jan. 20. Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 20

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from just east of the East Fork Russian River Bridge to Potter Valley Road on Friday, Jan. 20. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 101

– A pavement repair project from Perkins Street to West Road will continue. Work hours are 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Granite Construction Inc. of Ukiah.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Moore Avenue to the junction of Routes 20/101 on Friday, Jan. 20. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from the north Willits railroad crossing to 0.6 mile north of Shimmins Ridge Road on Monday, Jan. 23, and Thursday, Jan. 26. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 128

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from 0.5 mile east of the Shearing Creek Bridge to 0.9 mile west of the Mendocino/Sonoma County line on Tuesday, Jan. 24, and Wednesday, Jan. 25. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 175

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Buckman Drive to the Lake/Mendocino County line beginning Monday, Jan. 23. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Work on all these projects is weather permitting and subject to change. Caltrans advises motorists to drive with caution when approaching work areas and to be prepared to stop at traffic control stations.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.
