CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Konocti Senior Support Inc. will offer monthly public educational opportunities throughout 2012 about issues facing seniors.


Tuesday, Jan. 24, will be the first session entitled “The Emotional Brain: “Rethinking Happiness” on DVD from the highly regarded PBS series, “This Emotional Life.”


You will learn three common myths about what makes us happy, why fewer choices increases well-being and the role our thoughts play in experiencing joy.


The sessions will be facilitated by Konocti Senior Support Peer Counseling Program Director Kim Baughan-Young, MFT.


The trainings will take place the fourth Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. to noon at St John’s Lutheran Church, 14310 Memory Lane, in Clearlake.


Konocti Senior Support Inc. is a nonprofit agency offering free services to seniors through the Peer Counseling Program and the Friendly Visitor Program.


All services are provided by trained volunteers and new trainings will be held for volunteers this spring.

LUCERNE, Calif. – Lucerne FLOW resumes their monthly meetings on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Lucerne Community Clinic, located at 6300 Highway 20.


Pregathering starts at 11 a.m. and the meeting begins at 11:30 a.m.


The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.


Items to be discussed include the future of FLOW and the election of board members for the coming year.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Lake County Animal Care and Control will host an animal vaccination clinic on Sunday, Jan. 22.


Dr. Sanchez of Wasson Memorial Animal Hospital will host the clinic from noon to 2 p.m. at the shelter, 4949 Helbush in Lakeport.


Vaccinations for dogs cost $6 for rabies, $12 for DHLPP and $15 for kennel cough.


For cats, vaccination costs are $6 for rabies, $17 for FELV and $17 for FVRCP.


Microchips to help keep pets safe and recover them when they are lost will cost $10 per pet that day.


All sales are cash only.

 

Please have dogs on a leash and cats in an appropriate carrier.


All rabies certificates will be good for one year unless proof of a prior rabies vaccination can be provided.


To reach the shelter from Highway 29 in Lakeport, take the Hill Road exit and head north toward Sutter Lakeside Hospital, and follow the animal control signs.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Political satirist Roy Zimmerman will headline at a fundraiser for KPFZ 88.1 FM on Saturday, Jan. 14.


The performance will begin at 7 p.m. at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre, 275 S. Main St., Lakeport.


In addition to Zimmerman, special guest Vicstar will perform.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Konocti Dance Academy's third annual “Free Day of Dance” will take place on Saturday, Jan. 21.


The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the academy, 4274 Old Highway 53, Clearlake.


Toddlers through adults are invited to come and try Konocti Dance Academy free of charge.


Tap, jazz, hip hop, breakdancing and “Mommy & Me” classes will be offered.


Fun raffle prizes will be awarded during each class.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The University of California Master Gardeners of Lake County are proud to present two workshops on winter pruning of fruit trees.


The first will be a class room presentation, followed by an outdoor hands-on demonstration.


Each class will be presented twice to accommodate participants’ schedules.


A donation of $5 is suggested for each workshop to cover costs.


The first workshop, a presentation on “Pruning and Training Fruit Trees in the Home Orchard,” will take place on Thursday, Jan. 12, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Agricultural Center, 883 Lakeport Blvd., Lakeport, CA 95453; a wheelchair accessible facility.


An RSVP to U.C. Cooperative Extension, 707-263-6838, is required as space is limited.


The second workshop, a hands-on pruning demonstration will take place on Saturday, Jan. 14, in Upper Lake starting at 10 a.m.

Both workshops will be repeated on Saturday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 25, with the classroom presentation taking place in Lakeport on Jan. 21 and the outdoor pruning demonstration on Jan. 25.


Location of the pruning demonstration has yet to be decided.
