CLEAR LAKE STATE PARK – With sunshine predicted for this weekend, it is a perfect time for a morning adventure with nature.

Meet retired park ranger Val Nixon at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, May 1, at the Clear Lake State Park Visitor Center ramp for a guided nature walk in the park.

Through Nixon’s years of work in the state park system, she understands the significance of the natural world and gives those walking with her an even greater understanding of the importance of Lake County natural resources. With her you will view the high lake level that creates an ever-changing shoreline.

Guided walks are scheduled for the first Saturday of each month. There is no entrance fee to the park for participating in walks.

With birds singing and flowers blooming, it is time for the visitor center to start its summer schedule.

Beginning this weekend and continuing through August, the visitor center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Volunteers will be on hand in the visitor center to answer your questions or guide you through the natural history museum.

See many species, such as the black bear, mountain lion and great horned owl that thrive in Lake County.

The gift shop contains a variety of nature-related merchandise for sale and is staffed by volunteers. The varied inventory changes frequently. All proceeds from sales are used to upgrade the park and educational facilities within the park.

Visit Clear Lake State Park Interpretation Association at www.clearlakestatepark.org for additional information and photos of Clear Lake State Park.

Clear Lake State Park is located at 5300 Soda Bay Road, Kelseyville.

LAKEPORT – Founders Cup Night is this Saturday, April 24, at the Lakeport Speedway.

It will be an action-packed night with the racing kicking off at 6:30 p.m. at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., Lakeport.

With Mother Nature winning the first night's events after qualifying was complete, the speedway will hold its opening night at the speedway again this weekend. Mother Nature let them race long enough to see the Coors Light Modified track record be shattered by Mark Marek of Lakeport at a 12.386.

There is an action-packed card this Saturday night at the New Super Speedway featuring the Coors Light Modifieds, the ever-exciting Clover Hydro Jammers, the Snake Pit Development Bombers, the Nor-Cal Pro 4 Modifieds and the NCRA Mini Stocks.

There will be a kids tire race where four teams of four kids will race tires for prizes and Jim Kelly will be inducted into the NCRA Hall of Fame.

All the hot drivers in the Coors Light Modifieds will be on hand to see if they can break Marek’s new track record that was set at the last race. They know the time is short before the sun's rays beat down on the track and make it impossible to beat the time.

Coming off a rainout the crews have the cars all polished up and they are all revved up to go racing.

Come out and see all the new changes at Lakeport Speedway and cheer for your favorite driver and all the new drivers as well.

Bring your kids to the race track and sign them up to participate in the first tire race of the season at Lakeport Speedway.

Also out this weekend will be the new Lakeport Speedway Speedy Signature Shuttle, where kids can get autographs from the drivers through out the night.

The management is looking forward to making this your community based not-for-profit speedway.
