UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Upper Lake Community United Methodist invites the community to join its congregation on the sixth and last Sunday of Lent and the beginning of Holy Week, the week in which Christians celebrate the mystery of their salvation through Christ's Death and His Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

On Palm Sunday, April 13, they will commemorate the triumphal entrance of Christ into Jerusalem, when palm branches were placed in His path, before His arrest on Holy (Maundy) Thursday and His Crucifixion on Good Friday.

They Holy Thursday service, also known as Maundy Thursday, will be an evening service as will the Good Friday solemn service which will commence at 7 p.m.

Good Friday is the most somber day of the entire year. In this service silence pervades, socializing is kept to a minimum, things are done quietly, it is a day of mourning, it is a funeral.

You are encouraged to fully participate in the journey together to follow Jesus through all the Holy Week services.

The church sees each of these services not as a standalone event, but as part of an experience that engages us in the story that shapes and defines lives.

The week culminates in the Easter Sunday service on April 20. Join them at 7 a.m. for the sunrise service and at 11 a.m. for the traditional Easter service and flowering of the cross to celebrate the resurrection.

Pastor Wanda Celli will officiate all of the services listed.  Bring your friends and family, all are welcome to any or all of the events at the Upper Lake Community United Methodist Church, which his located at 604 Clover Valley Road.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – More than half a dozen local churches will gather on Friday, April 18, at Lake County Bible Fellowship to observe one of the holiest days of the church year, Good Friday.

The community is invited to attend the service, which begins at noon on Friday, April 18, at Lake County Bible Fellowship, located at 727 N. Main St. in Lakeport.

Good Friday is the day that Christians commemorate the death and sacrifice of Jesus.

The purpose of this 24th annual service hosted by the Lake Ministerial Association is to help participants experience the emotional and spiritual aspects of the passion story: the betrayal, abandonment and agony of Jesus.

Throughout history, churches, congregations and individual Christians have sought to enhance their understanding of the events that happened on that first Good Friday in a variety of ways.

They have sought to remember the story by reading the Gospel narratives, recalling the last seven sentences Jesus spoke from the cross.

This year, a pastor or representative from several churches in the community will speak on each of the seven sayings of Jesus on the cross.

Each speaker will seek to draw the listeners closer to Jesus in this time approaching the remembrance of his death.

Every year, this Good Friday service is well attended and is a great display of unity in our community by people from several different religious traditions – Lutheran, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Methodist, Disciples of Christ, Catholic and nondenominational.
