LAKEPORT, Calif. – Children and youth ministries start up again for the fall at Clear Lake Baptist Church.
Tuesday nights, beginning Sept. 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., AWANA Kids Club will start for this school year.
AWANA is for children from 3 years to sixth grade. It includes games, theme nights, Bible devotions and awards for verse memorization.
There are special nights such as AWANA Grand Prix when the clubbers race pine block derby cars, Crazy Hair night and Fun Fair night. The clubbers also earn AWANA bucks to spend at the AWANA store.
Sunday night youth group also is starting for teens in seventh to 12th grade on Sept. 8.
Sunday night youth group is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. To register, pick up a form from the church or download the form from the church Web site, www.clearlakebaptistchurch.org , and bring it on the starting night.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Clearlake claims that what insurance policies commonly call “acts of God” like the earthquakes in Japan, China, Haiti and Chile, and the tsunami in Indonesia are to be expected more frequently.
Wikipedia indicates a recent increase in the number of major earthquakes. Even wars with a human origin and human control, in an age of enlightenment and sophisticated scientific advances will increase in frequency.
With the problems of fighting in the Middle East, we can see tensions growing.
“These disasters are sad and we mourn the tragic loss of human life with the rest of the international community,” says Ted Calkins, pastor of Clearlake and Middletown Seventh-day Adventist Church. “However, it’s not something we are surprised by. As Adventists, we believe God has already explained why all these events are happening. There is a bigger picture.”
The church is presenting a series called “Revelation – hope, meaning, purpose” to further explore the reasons behind this increasing onslaught of devastating events and help people find a sense of hope, meaning and purpose in their lives.
“With all these natural disasters and wars, it is easy to feel a sense of despair and think the end of the world is coming,” said Calkins, presenter of the series. Beginning on Sept. 11, “This series will comfort people and give them something to be happy about.”
The Adventist Church in Middletown will host the seminar on Wednesday, Sept. 11, which begins at 6 p.m. at 14490 Uhl Avenue, Clearlake.
There is no charge for session notes, handouts, and study materials but supplies are limited.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – Beit Chavurah, Lake County's Jewish group, has announced its plans for the High Holy Days.
There will be services on Wednesday, Sept. 4, for Rosh Hashanah and Friday, Sept. 13, for Yom Kippur eve.
Both will begin at 7 p.m. in the social hall of the Lower Lake United Methodist Church, 16255 Second St.
Because Beit Chavurah is a small congregation, its schedule will be limited to these two services.
To make them as meaningful as possible, service leader Rich Altman will add the sounding of the Shofar for Rosh Hashanah and the chanting of the Kol Nidrei prayer for Yom Kippur.
Both services will include the reading of the Torah.

LAKEPORT, Calif. –Choir rehearsals recommence on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary of Lakeport Christian Center.
The church is located at 455 S. Forbes St. near the Lake County Fairgrounds.
The public is welcome to join the choir and "make a joyful noise unto the Lord."
Choir Director Rev. Barbara Sheddan has announced that the next choir presentations will be on Sunday, Sept. 29, in the 10:30 a.m. celebration and on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Fall Musical Night, both to be held at Lakeport Christian Center.
