LAKEPORT, Calif. – The city of Lakeport has begun construction of important pedestrian safety and accessibility improvements at the intersection of Lange Street and Giselman Street, the primary entrance to the local school complex.
Construction is scheduled to continue through July 20 and will focus on improving pedestrian accessibility and safety for students, parents, school staff, residents, and visitors at one of the city's highest-traffic pedestrian crossings.
Project improvements include:
• Construction of new ADA-compliant curb ramps and pedestrian crossings.
• Installation of detectable warning surfaces and accessible pedestrian pathways.
• Replacement of existing curb and gutter infrastructure.
• Drainage improvements designed to reduce standing water and improve stormwater conveyance.
• Enhanced accessibility and pedestrian safety throughout the intersection.
In addition to improving accessibility, the project will address localized drainage deficiencies that have historically contributed to standing water near the pedestrian crossings.
The city said these improvements will help protect the long-term integrity of the new infrastructure while creating a safer environment for all users.
Upon completion, the project will eliminate existing accessibility barriers and provide a safer, more accessible connection to the school campus and the surrounding neighborhood.
During construction, residents and motorists may experience temporary lane reductions, construction-related noise and dust, and minor traffic delays in the immediate area.
The city encourages motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone and appreciates the community's patience during the improvement process.
This project is being partially funded through the Blue Zones Project as part of a shared commitment to improving walkability, accessibility, and public health within the Lakeport community.
