Governor launches campaign to recruit for California Service Corps

On Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom kicked off the 2026 California Service Corps recruitment, calling on 10,000 young Californians to step up for their communities to join the California Service Corps — the nation's largest state service program, bigger than even the federal Peace Corps.

In 309 or almost 10% of U.S. counties, mostly in the South, poverty rates stayed at 20% or more for two decades, according to the recently released American Community Survey, or ACS, 5-year estimates.
