CLEAR LAKE STATE PARK – Join naturalist Brad Barnwell at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 3, for a guided bird walk in Clear Lake State Park.
Meet at the visitor center ramp. Bring binoculars and your favorite pocket bird book.
The walk will concentrate on identifying the new arrivals and observing nesting and nest building.
On many of his recent walks in the park, Barnwell, who is skilled in bird identification, has observed bald eagles overhead. Nesting great blue herons also can be observed from park locations. There is lots of courting activity during early spring and bird vocalizations are at their best.
The woodpeckers are sounding off with tapping and scrapping for the best territory. Several species of swallows can be seen feeding on insects as they streak through the sky. There is always something new and exciting to report from each walk.
There is no entrance fee to the park for participating in walks. Rain cancels the walk. Clear Lake State Park is located at 5300 soda Bay Road, Kelseyville.
